How do I I get my application noticed? I have not a glittering career to write about But I have always worked hard and have a very good work ethics.

Hi John, always make sure your CV is most recent and up to date to reflect what you are applying for. You can also approach the recruiter and show your interests and why you think you would be suitable for the role you would be interested in.
